10-14 Arakicho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan
¥¥ ・ Izakaya
This intimate izakaya, run by its owner-chef and proprietress, oozes the nostalgic charm of a watering hole in old Arakicho. Both partners frequently visit producing regions and sake breweries. With the temperament of an artisan, the owner-chef pores over every detail of his dishes, which range from snacks to labour-intensive fare such as soups or fish pickled in Saikyo miso and grilled. The proprietress warms sake to just the right temperature; after dinner, she draws on her experiences to brew coffee. An unusual name for a most singular coffee shop.
