¥¥ ・ Oden
This oden speciality shop has been in business for four generations, since the Meiji period (1880s-90s). The owner-chef in his bow tie and proprietress in her apron greet guests as they enter. Oden is seasoned with light dashi soup stock tinged with kombu kelp. Octopus (the ‘Tako’ in ‘Takocho’ means ‘octopus’), tofu skin and daikon radish are popular items. Ask about items not on the menu and start a conversation. A grilled octopus onigiri rice ball and chazuke in oden soup draws the meal to a close. Dashi drawn from a wide variety of sources adds depth to the flavour.
