MICHELIN Guide's Point Of View

This is one of those places where you don’t just come to eat, but where you’ll find quality ingredients, impressive flavours and solid technique as part of a gastronomic experience that touches the emotions. This is showcased in its homage to José Saramago’s novel “Blindness” and a philosophy built around three concepts (to feel, to touch and to provoke) that play with the senses. Part of the Torel Palace Hotel but with its own separate entrance, this restaurant is overseen by chef Vítor Matos and impressively run day to day by young chef Rita Magro. Here, the cuisine is based around a serious, common sense yet fun approach (some of the dishes are served “blind” to guests), with a desire to demonstrate a high level of cooking and to create an element of surprise in terms of technique, with presentation and flavour always to the fore. This is showcased on a single surprise tasting menu entitled Blind Emotions, with a choice of two different options (10 or 12 “moments”).
