Located in Mainz's city park and run by the dedicated Barth family, FAVORITE parkhotel is a sophisticated place to stay, but it is also popular in its own right as a place to eat. Tobias Schmitt is in charge of the kitchen at the fine dining restaurant. His classical style of cooking has a modern edge and features his own cleverly integrated ideas. A shining example of the excellent quality of the ingredients is the first-class halibut from France, which is served with aromatic creamed Savoy cabbage and fruity grape and successfully contrasted with spicy-smoky bacon, as well as a frothy, buttery champagne sauce boasting a beautiful acidity. The set menu dubbed "From Roots to Blossom" is available in a four- to eight-course format, or you can pick and choose à la carte dishes. As for the restaurant itself, it boasts a refined and elegant interior. Your best bet is to ask for a table by the window – or dine on the beautiful terrace overlooking the Rhine and Taunus.
