MICHELIN Guide's Point Of View

The name of the restaurant has a direct link with Japanese philosophy as the word “ko” (which translates as “turtle”) is associated with long life and the symbolism of the number 1. Opened in 1988 by chef George Yuji Koshoji, it is now located at a different address (in the Itaim Bibi district), where it has become a popular meeting place for locals. It boasts a welcoming, contemporary ambience, soft lighting and a decor of bright colours, plus an impressive large balcony from where guests can watch their dishes being prepared. The extensive menu offers a variety of options such as gyosas, tartares, ussuzukuri, uramaki, sushi and sashimi, as well as hot dishes that include yakisoba, octopus yaki and Wagyu medallions. It also features a superb selection of sakis and innovative cocktails.
