Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking
Despite the name Taj Mahal, the cuisine at this restaurant is not Indian; instead, both the menu and the decor here evoke the simple flavours and traditions of Bosnia and the Balkans, with a couple of pages on the menu dedicated to traditional dishes. There is a focus on grilled meats (chosen from the restaurant’s own butcher’s) and vegetables, while a choice of simple cocktails is available alongside the wine list. This is a good place to try baklava, especially the one made with plums which is prepared by the owner’s mother and is truly delicious! Situated in the heart of the old town, the restaurant gets extremely busy, so booking is recommended. A second restaurant with the same name can be found a couple of kilometres north of the town centre in the more modern setting of the Hotel Lero.
