Pasaje de la Reta, Mendoza, Argentina
$$$ ・ Farm to table
When they talk about “cocina de finca” (literally “estate cuisine”) here, it is a serious business! It is perhaps, a little surprising to find two brothers and wine-experts Héctor and Pablo Durigutti at the helm, both of whom had the clear idea of focusing their efforts on fine dining as the perfect complement to their unique microcosmos at Finca Victoria, a family-run winery with two charming guest houses. The restaurant itself, located just a few metres from the winery’s HQ and totally surrounded by vineyards, occupies an elegant glass cube with a thatched roof and takes its name from the five types of soil found on the property. The cuisine is centred around two tasting menus: one entitled “5 Suelos” (5 courses), the other a more exclusive 14-course option called Historia. The latter also features an astute wine pairing that explores the evolution of wine from Antiquity to its arrival in Argentina, and then to its expansion as a result of the country’s immigrant community.
